Kit Gresham: Legacy of a Master Printmaker

A Private View at Eames Fine Art Gallery in South East London.

This seemed to be a gift of an exhibition—a chance to peer inside the plan chest drawers of a ‘master printmaker’. Gresham’s collection of prints, acquired over many years, was on display, featuring works made for artists such as Elizabeth Frink, Anthony Gormley, and Peter Blake.

Gormley’s work took me aback… I hadn’t realised his work included print. From a distance, it looked like a spit-bite process had been used but was, in fact, a screen print. His creative language touched me. This is haunting… here is an artist concerned with the space around a figure as much as the shape the figure makes. Food for thought.

I made this trip with fellow student Ollie. The pleasure of being able to discuss all those small details of how and what was encapsulated within the print was invaluable.
