What’s in a name

I was talking through my work during my one-on-one with Jo. The ideas are firing fast and varied, but I’m unable to recall the names of the artists who have influenced me—not the ones I’ve worked on over months, but the recent ones.

This reminds me of the lecture given by ************* on professional practice. (See? It’s happened again.) He discussed attending a gallery showcasing your work or an exhibition for which you have been selected. Before visiting the gallery, research who selected you and the curators involved. Make this a conscious part of your practice. If the selectors have taken the time to choose you and your work, it’s simply rude not to learn about them.

That’s how I feel about the artists I tend to forget. They have taken the time to create the artwork that inspired me, so I should honour their names and strive to remember them.

Commit them to memory!!!

N.B. I'm keeping a note file of names I need to remember. Little and often!
