Hydrocoat II

I’ve been pushing the plates to find a happy amalgamation, combining the more drawn-in image with the coat layer. I’m beginning to wonder if this is just something that isn’t going to happen. However, I’ve now deep etched the coat plate after stopping out the actual jacket. I’m surprised by the result—the darks in the background have lightened significantly, and now the coat hovers over it.

Combining the two, it’s almost as though the information frequency is too great, so I will stop trying for the moment.

However, while prepping the coat plate, I was drawn to this amazing colour image on my bench. This is the plate in its raw state with leftover colours. The snapshot has really excited me; it’s captured my attention in a way that my previous colour printing has proven elusive.

So, while I take a break from combining, I’m going to progress this as a single image—a colour mono-print or ‘à la poupée’. I’ll start with mono-print first.

One of my colleagues mentioned that the colours in my original photo composite were appealing, so I’m looking again at this.

Bottom left, that rose gold glow? The violet-blue jacket, an acid yellow-green background, and finally a roll over the frame in blue.

Go try it.
