Challenging doubt.
Realising the hierophant/shaman is fraught. Not least, his name seems to keep switching; this is typical when dealing with such a mercurial character. A real shape-shifter.
Combining the footage of the hierophant with the backgrounds is a sick-making process. Loads of doubt and questions about whether it will blend… It’s hard to suppress that uncomfortable gnawing feeling of failure. But hey?! What is failure if it’s nothing more than an attempt at realisation?
I set myself this whole task to see if the process I had used for Weyward Siters was reproducible. Was it a one-off, or can I use the same or similar methodology to bring it into being?
Scale…. Colour ….. composition…. Authenticity…. Pressure…. Expectation. Contrast. Tone… Coherence
All words that come into this creation.
However, I must remember that this is no different from what happened in the early stages of The Weyward Sisters. I remember sitting in the dining room on the Mac, trying to get the sisters to fit into a background. They were set on moors, woods, stone circles and fields. All were valid, but it was only when I dropped them into the dark woods that they felt at home. That was like a moment… a single moment when the collision of intent and image came together.
(N.B. The whole process of realising the hierophant/shaman can be found under Documentation.)
